What's changed
New homepage hero
Follow Configure the Homepage Hero to add slides, review the content, and turn on Use New Homepage Hero.
The Home V2 page now has a Homepage Hero (Swiper) section for campaigns and featured products. A hero is the large banner shown near the top of the homepage.
| Feature | What you can configure |
|---|---|
| Slide images | A required Desktop Poster and an optional Mobile Poster for smaller screens. |
| Background video | Optional MP4 or WebM video, with the desktop poster available when video cannot play. |
| Slide content | A required Title, optional Subtitle, and optional CTA button label and link. |
| Text appearance | Light or dark text in five available positions, with an overlay to improve contrast. |
| Product card | An optional product with its current name, price, availability, and product-page link. |
| Carousel options | Automatic slide movement, slide delay, an accessible label, and a decorative wave. Visitors can pause and restart automatic movement. |
The existing Promo / Hero Banner remains available. Enabling Use New Homepage Hero hides the old banner but does not delete its content. Turn the setting off and select Update to return to the old banner.
Flexible product page sections
Follow Arrange Product Page Sections to copy existing content, change its order, and check the saved product page.
You can now choose the order of marketing content shown below the main details on each product page.
| Change | What it means for your products |
|---|---|
| Flexible content order | Add, remove, and reorder marketing content in Flexible Sections for each product. |
| Available content | Use promotional content, benefits, comparisons, image-and-text blocks, videos, discounts, bundles, related articles, related products, and frequently asked questions. |
| Existing content migration | Flexible Sections Migration copies supported existing content into the new list without deleting the original fields. |
| Existing layout preserved | Products keep their current layout while Flexible Sections is empty. |
| Main product details unchanged | The product gallery, price, variations, and purchase controls are not reordered by this feature. |
Do not select Overwrite existing flexible sections unless you intend to replace every section already in the new list.
Automatic website improvements
No setup is required for the following changes:
| Area | Improvement |
|---|---|
| Homepage loading | Homepage content and settings load more efficiently. |
| Images | Images are better matched to the visitor's screen size. Existing images continue to work; no uploads are needed. |
| Other website elements | Fonts, menus, badges, login graphics, and pop-ups load more efficiently. |
| Keyboard navigation | Keyboard users can move through menus, filters, controls, and pages more clearly. |
| Screen readers | Buttons and page controls have clearer labels. |
| Zoom | Visitors can use browser and mobile zoom without an unnecessary limit. |
More reliable buy-one-get-one promotions
See Manage Buy One Get One offers for offer conditions, automatically added items, and rules for combining promotions.
Buy-one-get-one promotions now update more reliably when a customer changes the cart:
| Cart situation | Expected result |
|---|---|
| The cart no longer meets the offer conditions | The automatically added gift is removed. |
| A gift is added automatically | It cannot qualify the cart for another gift. |
| More than one discount could apply to an item | The same item is not discounted twice during one calculation. |
| The customer checks the cart and mini cart | Prices remain consistent between both views. |
| The customer manually adds a product also used as a gift | The manually added product is not removed when the automatic gift is removed. |
No configuration changes are required. If your store uses these promotions, add qualifying products to the cart, compare the gift and prices in the cart and mini cart, then remove qualifying products and confirm that the automatic gift disappears when the offer no longer applies. You do not need to submit an order for these cart checks.
What you need to review
After the update, complete these checks:
Turning on the new homepage hero or saving a new product section order changes what customers see on the live website. Preview the content and record the current setup before selecting Update.
- Decide whether your homepage should continue using Promo / Hero Banner or change to the new Homepage Hero (Swiper).
- Review each product before moving its existing marketing sections into Flexible Sections.
- Check active buy-one-get-one offers using the cart checks above.
- Complete the translation review below.
Do your translations
For version 1.7.9, review these areas:
| Area | Text to review |
|---|---|
| Homepage Hero | Carousel controls, accessible labels, and product-card link text. |
| Product sections | Section names, headings, and links. |
| Content migration | Flexible Sections Migration labels and messages in the product editor. |
| Navigation and accessibility | Menu and control labels, including text announced by screen readers. |
Do not skip this step. Text without an up-to-date translation can appear in English after the update, even on a translated website. Review and save translations for every language your store uses.
Follow Update theme translations for the full instructions with screenshots. Select the Globber theme, including when managing a subsite.
- In the WordPress dashboard, open Loco Translate > Themes and select Globber.
- Select Edit for the language you want to review.
- Review the text for the areas listed above, update missing or outdated translations, and save your changes.
- Check the affected pages and controls in that language. Repeat for every language your store uses.
Text entered directly in page or product fields, such as campaign titles and section headings, must also be reviewed in the corresponding content editor.
